PDF report improvements - February '25

Less whitespace - more text per page

A frequently requested improvement was adjusting the layout of the PDF report. Users noted that pages contained too much whitespace. We have made a number of changes to address this.

  • The spacing between a section heading and its underlying questions has been standardised.

  • The page margins have been narrowed, allowing more text per line.

  • Text and section wrapping behaviour has been improved:

    • Previously, a section (or the start of one) had to fit on a single page, and if it didn't, it would start on a new page - resulting in large areas of whitespace in the middle of reports. Sections can now be split across pages, eliminating this whitespace.

    • Sentences were sometimes cut mid-sentence. They are now wrapped at the end of a sentence (defined as a full stop, exclamation mark, or question mark).

  • The signature field is no longer automatically placed on a new page. We now try to fit it (with at least one signature) on the final page, and only start a new page if that is not possible.

  • Photos were previously placed only one per row despite space for two side by side. They are now displayed two per row, saving significant space.
