How to set up Microsoft Calendar integration for Emergency Button users?

If you already have Microsoft SSO set up or you are interested in setting up more Microsoft integrations at once, you can also enable Microsoft Calendar integration, allowing the control room to view a user's recent, current and upcoming calendar appointments during an emergency.

You can also set up both SSO and Calendar at the same time.

The application never sees passwords and cannot change anything in your Microsoft 365 environment.

How is it set up?

Before you start make sure:

  • You have access to one of the Cloud App Admin roles for one approval step:

    • Global Administrator

    • Privileged Role Administrator

    • Cloud Application Administrator

    • Application Administrator

To enable Microsoft Calendar, you will need:

  • OPTION A - if as a Cloud App Admin you have access to our Emergency Button Backoffice.

    1. Go to Tenant details - Users tab

    2. Click "Grant calendar permissions" button

    3. Microsoft shows a consent screen listing the requested permissions for Read calendar:

      1. Read user calendars, to adds the user's current appointment (e.g. visit address) to alarm details, so responders know where the person is (Read-only).

    4. Click Accept

At this point users can access the "Sign in with Microsoft" button and they can sign-in using SSO, without a need to consent again since global admin already granted permissions globally, they cannot use the Calendar integration yet, even though the permission is set, but it is not yet enabled per user (see point: Manage in Emergency Button backoffice which users can link their calendars).

  • OPTION B - if as a Cloud App Admin you DON'T HAVE access to our Emergency Button Backoffice

TO SET UP BOTH SSO & CALENDAR:

    1. Open this link, replacing {tenant-id} with your Tenant ID from step 1, and accept:
      https://login.microsoftonline.com/{tenant-id}/adminconsent?client_id=b4e7f901-1057-4e6e-82d4-0dbbc21fb6d3

    2. Microsoft shows a consent screen listing the requested permissions for SSO & Read calendar

    3. Click Accept

At this point users can access the "Sign in with Microsoft" button and they can sign-in using SSO, without a need to consent again since global admin already granted permissions globally, they cannot use the calendar yet, even though the permission is set, but it is not yet enabled per user (see point: Manage in Emergency Button backoffice which users can link their calendars).

  • Manage in Emergency Button backoffice which users can link their calendars

    1. Open the Emergency Button panel login page and click Sign in with Microsoft.

    2. Go to Tenant details - Users tab
    3. Edit user
    4. Mark a toggle "Use calendar in alarms" per user that you want to enable the feature for

At this point users can access the "Sign in with Microsoft" button and we can retrieve his calendar data during emergency.
