How the IoT emergency button works

Using the emergency button for specific locations such as a reception desk or meeting room

The Montr IoT emergency button can be used to trigger emergency alerts from specific rooms or areas.

How does this work exactly?
A fixed IoT emergency button is available at locations such as a reception desk or meeting room. This button is intended for one specific room or spot. In the event of an emergency, press the button twice within two seconds to start the alarm procedure.

How do I know the button is on?
The button is always on in principle. When the battery is sufficiently charged and the device is connected to the network, a blue light flashes every 10 seconds. The button is ready for use.

How to trigger an alert?

Press the emergency button twice in quick succession within two seconds. Each successful press emits a beep — two presses means two beeps in a row.

How do I know the alert was successful?
After pressing, the device will send the emergency alert. This normally takes between 5 and 10 seconds. Once the alert has been successfully received by the Alarm Receiving Centre, the device emits a loud beep.

What happens after the alert?

Once the alert is received, the agreed alarm protocol is activated. This may mean that your colleagues receive a notification on their phone (call and flash SMS) that you need assistance. Colleagues can indicate via this message that they are responding, which is then shared with the other colleagues so everyone knows who responded first. If nobody responds, the alert is resent to all colleagues after two minutes.

It is also possible that the ARC will call to verify the alert and, if necessary, contact the police.

What do the lights on the button mean?

  • Blue-green flash every 10 seconds — active and connected to the network

  • Rapid green flashing — sending a message

  • Blue-yellow flash every 10 seconds — active and connected but battery needs charging (below 40%)

  • Blue-red flash every 10 seconds — connected to network but battery below 25%. Solution: charge the button

  • Yellow-red flash every 10 seconds — battery below 10%, no longer connected to the network. Solution: charge the button

  • Slow red flashing — device fault, not connected to the network. Restart by holding the button down for 15 seconds

Does the button need to be charged?

Yes — the button needs to be charged for approximately two hours every three weeks using a USB-C cable. When the charger is connected and charging begins, an orange light will illuminate above the charging port confirming that charging has started successfully.
