Microsoft Integration with Emergency Button (Single-Sign On & Calendar)

Simplify user management while providing more context during emergencies

Managing multiple usernames and passwords can be time-consuming for both users and IT administrators. With Microsoft Integration, users can securely access the Montr Emergency Button app and Backoffice using the same account they already use for work.

Montr can be integrated with your organisation's Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) to provide secure Single Sign-On (SSO) for users and administrators. As part of this integration, Montr can also access users' Microsoft Outlook calendar information, giving the control room valuable context during an emergency.

This integration improves both security and operational awareness, while reducing the administrative effort required to manage user accounts.

Who is this feature for?

Single Sign-On is ideal for organisations that use Microsoft 365 / Active Directory to manage employee accounts and want to simplify access to Montr.

Users can sign in to both the Montr Emergency Button app and the Backoffice using their existing Microsoft work account. There is no separate Montr password to remember, resulting in a smoother login experience and fewer password-related support requests.

For IT administrators, access is managed through the organisation's existing identity management policies. When an employee joins, changes roles or leaves the organisation, their access to Montr is automatically aligned with their Microsoft account, reducing manual administration and improving security.

This makes SSO especially valuable for organisations with many users or established identity management processes.

When Microsoft Integration is enabled, Montr can also retrieve calendar information from Microsoft Outlook upon administrator's permission. If an emergency alarm is triggered, the Alarm Response Center can view the user's relevant calendar events.

This additional context helps responders better understand where the employee is likely to be, who they may be visiting, and what activities are planned around the time of the incident - supporting a faster and more informed response.

How does it work in daily practice?

Once the integration has been configured, users simply select "Sign in with Microsoft" when logging into the Montr app or Backoffice. Authentication is handled through the organisation's existing Microsoft sign-in process.

The calendar integration works automatically in the background once permitted. Whenever an emergency alarm is triggered the control room can see, alongside the alarm information:

  • current calendar appointment,

  • latest appointment within the previous 12 hours, and

  • earliest appointment within the next 12 hours.

The result is a secure login experience for employees and richer situational awareness for those responding to emergencies.

How is the integration set up?

Setting up Microsoft Integration is straightforward and is typically completed together with your IT administrator. To enable the integration, your organisation will need to send your Microsoft Tenant ID and approve the Montr application within your Microsoft tenant and grant relevant permissions.

As a backoffice administrator, you should also:

  • Make sure email addresses match - Sign-ins are matched to Emergency Button accounts by email address. Each user's Emergency Button account email must be identical to their Microsoft work account email (their sign-in address). If some staff currently use a different address in the Emergency Button system - for example a private one - update it in the backoffice, or reach out to us to update it.

  • Request enforcing SSO-only sign-in - If you want to require Microsoft sign-in and disable password login entirely, we can enforce it for your organisation with a simple toggle switch in the backoffice. From that moment, only Sign in with Microsoft works - on both the web panel and the mobile app.

  • Enable calendar integration per user - If you want a specific user to start using the calendar integration, you can enable it for with a simple toggle switch in the backoffice. Calendar integration is fully in the control of the organisation administrators. We won't fetch user calendars until you enable it.
In addition, the calendar is only accessed when an emergency alert is triggered.
