GPS tracking during emergency

Discover benefits of active tracking.

Updated over a month ago

When an emergency button is pressed, every second matters. To further increase safety, you can enable additional feature: automatic GPS tracking after an alarm is triggered.

This feature ensures that once an emergency notification is sent to the Alarm Response Center (ARC), the user’s location is continuously updated every 30 seconds - until the alarm is canceled in the app.

Who is this feature for?

In many real-life situations, a colleague may press the emergency button and then need to move, for example leaving a building when running away or being escorted to a different location.

Without live GPS updates, the ARC only receives a notification of the original alarm location. With this new feature activated, the ARC receives updated location information every 30 seconds, allowing them to:

  • Monitor movement in real time

  • Direct emergency services more accurately

  • Reduce response time

  • Increase the overall sense of security for field workers

This feature adds an additional layer of protection and strengthens your organisation’s safety policy. It provides a peace of mind for your employees: if something happens, your location keeps updating automatically — you don’t need to worry.

How does it work in daily practice?

The functionality is simple and fully automatic. When user presses the emergency button the alarm is sent to the ARC as usual with the exact GPS location even if the address has been entered in the app. Both locations are compared, with the GPS location always leading.

From that moment, the app actively monitor and automatically sends a GPS location update every 30 seconds until the user cancels the alarm in the app. To save the phone's battery, the GPS update is only sent if the GPS location deviates by a few meters from the previous one. There are no additional steps required from the user during an emergency. The tracking runs in the background while the alarm is active.

As soon as the emergency is canceled by the user in the app, active tracking is automatically terminated. To cancel, press the 'Cancel emergency notification' button in the screen of the Emergency Button app below:

Important to know:

  • GPS tracking only starts after an alarm is activated.

  • It stops immediately once the alarm is canceled.

  • The feature is not enabled for an organization by default.

  • User can manage in his own app settings to skip GPS updates as shown below:
